Elvis
moved to Memphis when he was thirteen years old. He loved Memphis
and those of us who come on this New Directions tour will find out
why.
We will fly into Memphis from Los Angeles. Our lodging will be at
the Heartbreak Hotel, which is within walking distance of all of
the Elvis attractions. We will tour Graceland, the home Elvis lived
in, and can walk through the private jet he named "The Lisa
Marie". There are many souvenir shops, museums and restaurants
in this area. If you are a movie fan, The Heartbreak Hotel plays
Elvis Presley movies 24 hours a day.
Beale Street is a great place to experience Memphis night life.
You can hear music from bands that play Handy Park, or dance in
the night clubs that line Beale Street. Beale Street is where the
Blues were born and live on to this day. Anyone for dancing the
night away at BB Kings? We can have dinner at Elvis Presleys
Memphis Restaurant which serves meals made from Elvis mothers
recipes and includes many of his favorite dishes.
Beale Street is also a great place to shop during the day. At A.
Schwabs, a century old dry-goods store, we can shop for bargains
in the manner that people have shopped for one hundred years.
A tour of Sun Studio will be a part of our Memphis experience. In
this small recording studio, a long list of legends, including Elvis,
recorded music that lives on today. Make sure you have your camera
so you can be photographed in front of the same microphone Elvis
sang into.
We will have a great time in Memphis and return home with fond memories
we will cherish forever.
